Selena
She broke through the barriers of the world of music by performing, singing as well as a designer. She was Mexican-American, but still traditional. She was the first to bring Tejano into mainstream music. In the same way that most people grieve a celebrity who has died far from their prime, the death of her was premature and destroyed a growing career. In the following years, fans were inspired to work even harder to ensure that Selena's successes would not fade away. The tragic death of Selena by a shooter triggered an outpouring of emotion in Latino communities similar with the reaction to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's. A hugely popular Latino musician across North America, Selena's music has touched many lives throughout the world. Selena might have been described by many as an Latina Madonna, however she's still a fantastic example to follow. Selena's off-stage family values and her participation in AIDS awareness efforts make her a good example.
